I written previously about Universal Unitarianism. How I attended a church in Madison a few years ago and have recently returned to that same church.
The more I attend the more I realize how well I fit there. I love the sense of community I feel at Shoreline Universalist Unitarian Society. (SUUS) I’ve attended other churches throughout my childhood and adulthood:
Many in those two religions. I never felt that I belonged in either religion. It didn’t matter the church I attended. I just never felt comfortable and it wasn’t for my lack of faith or the number of times I went. As with people I meet, I’m a quick study. I can usually tell within the first ten minutes if there is and will be a connection. I’m typically spot on as well.
From the moment I walked into SUUS, I was immediately put at ease. It’s the sense of community that keeps me going back. Shoreline is a small community and I’ve already made some HUGE connections there. For the past three weeks I’ve been attending:
New to SUUS meetings, three in all and even before I went to these meetings I already knew I found my place of worship.
So how did I find it?
Every year in May SUUS puts on the Shoreline Spring Festival in Madison, Connecticut. I’ve been a vendor there since the first year. I had no idea what SUUS was when I started going and two years into the event I asked what the organization was. When they told me I wanted to know more so in September of that second year I went to the church. I knew right away that I found my home. It’s that community that I’ve always been searching for and now that I’ve found it I’m not letting go.
Yesterday, (Sunday, May 22,) I became an OFFICIAL member having joined the church. One of the things UUAs say is that there are more of us out there who don’t know they are UUA. The most important factor for me in joining is the HUGE sense of community I feel at SUUS. It’s the first place I felt welcomed from my first visit. I invite all people local to Madison, Connecticut even just once. I bet those of you with some of my sensibilities will also find it difficult to walk away.
Be Happy! Be Well! Be Positive!
Blessings to you.
Once you realize that life is eternal,
That our souls our eternal,
That we return to light and physical over and over;
We then lose all our distress
We then lose all our fear of dying. For there truly is no end.
