From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

The Apostles’ Creed

We all have challenges.  We wouldn’t be human otherwise.  One such challenge that many of us possess is judgement of others.  When we judge someone else in many cases we see the same attributes in ourselves and we are simply projecting our behavior onto the one we are judging.

In the end we are only hurting ourselves when we judge others.  Is the other person aware of how we feel?  Well, in some cases maybe.  But the judgement coming from us we must internalize and how does that feel?

The question that comes to mind all the time when I feel myself going down Judgement Road is:
What’s more important?  To be right?  Or to have a relationship?

What’s more important to you?

As the quote above from The Apostles’ Creed suggests there is really only one who can judge us and our human behavior and it is certainly not up to humanity to judge each other.  How many times have we judged someone only to realize later that our perception was incorrect?

And again, I’ll refer back to:
What’s more important?  To be right…

I’ve seen judgement of others up close and personal and every time I’ve seen it I’ve stepped in and mediated that judgement.  I think part of the reason this is such a strong belief I have stems from the fact that I was judged many times as an infant from the medical profession:
Oh he’ll never live a successful life.
He’ll never go to college.
He’ll never drive a car.

From Career professionals:
Work?  How about as a dishwasher or an elevator operator (No kidding!  People in my past, as few as twenty years ago said this.)
You want to work in the book field?  How will you make a living doing that? (Those same people said that too.)

So when I see others going down Judgement Road, I naturally get frustrated.  Another platitude that relates here is:
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
Scripture:  John 8:1-11

We are all guilty of something.  The thing we must keep in mind is do we really want to perpetuate our sin by pointing it out in someone else?  As hard as it can be to turn the other cheek and walk away from confrontation, sometimes that’s the only brave thing to do.  We must learn to Let Go and Let God.

For God is the only and ultimate judge.

Remember that the next time you head down to Judgement Road.  Simply pivot.  Get off the road and travel down another.  All of your relationships will thank you for it.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.
