Some of the biggest challenges in relationships come from the fact that most people enter a relationship in order to get something: They’re trying to find someone who’s going to make them feel good. In reality, the only way a relationship will last is if you see your relationship as a place that you go to give, and not a place you go to take.

Anthony Robbins

Any relationship, whether personal, professional or a mix of both will NEVER succeed if one of the people in the relationship is saying:
What’s in it for me?

I learned that a LONG time ago and the lesson was retaught to me recently.  Yes we all have to look out for ourselves in the end, but if that’s the ONLY reason we commit to a relationship, that we’re looking for someone else to make us feel good, the relationship  will surely fail.  ONLY we have the power to make US feel ANYTHING.  No outside influence can change the way we feel.  The sooner we realize this, the sooner we can make healthy choices in EVERY area of our lives.  As with everything in life, however there is a yin and a yang; a give and a take.  The trick is to find the balance.  If you can find that balance in anything and everything you do, then you’ve succeeded.  Balance is another important factor in our lives.

It can be tremendously difficult to master.  Balancing our social lives and our professional lives, balancing our friends and our families, balancing everything is one way to live a successful life.  Once you’ve mastered that feat then you’re well on your way to leading a joyful existence.

Just remember, balance is more important then doing anything one way ALL the time.  Relationships are NOT all give; just as they are NOT all take.  If you can remember this, then all of your relationships will do more then simply succeed, they will thrive!

As an addendum:
Last week I had a friend of mine who follows my blog, email me some requests to write about in the future. Have them in the loop. If anyone else has suggestions, I’d LOVE to hear from you. Email
