Recently read The Alchemist
by Paulo Cohelo

This book was published in 1993 and I’ve seen it many times over the years, always picked it up and glanced through the pages. It never really caught my attention enough to read though. Didn’t really know what it was about and I had no real desire to read it.

In December, 2009 there were several book clubs in Madison, Connecticut reading the book. I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying:
Things come to you when you’re ready for them.

The Alchemist had been crossing my path all too often and I finally decided to take it as a message from God. It was time to put away my reservations and read it. All I can say is:
WOOOOOOW!

I understand now why I didn’t read it earlier on. I wouldn’t have understood what it was trying to say, never mind understanding it, I wouldn’t have even accepted what it was saying. This book is FILLED with Law of Attraction quotes. In the early 1990s when The Alchemist was published I wasn’t even born to the idea of The Law. As I’m writing this post, the last sentence as a matter of fact, a suggestion entered my mind. God was probably paving the way for me to accept the book when I did finally read it. By putting it in my view as many times as HE did, HE was tearing down my resistance, tearing down my walls, so I would be ready to accept what the book had to say when I did read it. I’ve learned during the past couple of years to REALLY listen to my thoughts.

Some of you may shake your head and roll your eyes and think:
“Ahhhh oh, Chris has gone off The Deep End again, but here’s what I think:”
If something comes to me totally unbidden I tend to now give it my full attention, mulling it over and considering it. I truly believe that some of these thoughts come from the divine. Seeing that I’ve fully embraced my new spirituality, it’s the only suggestion I can think of as to why these thoughts come to me.

In the next few blog posts, I’ll be pulling out select quotes from The Alchemist and discussing their meaning to me. I hope they inspire you as well. And if you haven’t read The Alchemist yet and if you feel like you’re ready to read it and accept what it has to say I highly recommend it.
