Confidence never comes from
asking other people what you should do.

Revealing The Truth
I discovered Naomi about a month ago now. She commented on one of my columns and I started following her blog, Revealing The Truth as well. The above quote was in her Twitter Stream on Monday and it clicked with me immediately. Interesting that you get what you need when you need it. Was discussing a similar topic with a friend this week.
We all have to go our own way. Yes. We can ask for suggestions, but we must be careful that we don’t become followers. Do we want to move forward? Eventually we have to take that first step.
What if we fail?
What if we followed someone else’s suggestion and we didn’t fail?
If we followed someone else and didn’t pursue what we wanted simply because the other course of action felt comfortable, felt right, then we just as surely failed. It is good to look to others for advice, I’m not saying different. It’s the person that constantly seeks opinions of others and doesn’t have their own opinion that fails. Naomi is right. We can’t be afraid to spread our OWN wings and have our OWN ideas.
Let’s look at some examples:
Steve Jobs
What if Steve Jobs took advice from others around him? You’ve all heard the stories:
That Jobs bucked the traditional mode of selling.
That he didn’t use focus groups.
That he went his own way.
What would the entertainment world be like today?
What would the tech world be like today, had Jobs followed the traditional economic road?
Would the iPad be here?
Would the iPod be here?
It’s been said multiple times that Mr. Jobs saw what the world needed and wanted and gave it to us long before we even knew we needed it.
Would we have the tech/entertainment world we now have if Steve Jobs sought other opinions and decided not to follow is own bliss?
Okay. I understand that not everyone is a football fan, but just like Steve Jobs:
Tim Tebow is in the news now because of what he is accomplishing in the small amount of time he’s been a starter for The Denver Broncos.
What if Tim Tebow listened to others and followed their opinion?
That he couldn’t play quaterback in the NFL
That he couldn’t win in the NFL?
Can you think of anyone else who goes their own way, bucks the trends and continues to surprise us?
Do you go your own way?
You MUST, in the end, have the confidence to follow your own way. If you don’t you won’t be successful in any endeavor you choose. Don’t be afraid to make your own decision. Yes. You can seek advice from others but if you think you have a better way then by all means go your own way. You’ll reap more rewards for traveling your own path then following in someone else’s foot steps.
Go your own way!
Be Happy! Be Well! Be Positive!
Blessings to you.
