Was talking to a friend last week and she told me she started writing.  One of the things I suggested if she found herself stuck for something to write about was to try free writing.  What’s free writing you may ask?  Free writing has helped many times clear a logjam.  It can also be very cathartic.

Free writing is when sit down with a pen and paper or in some cases these days in front of a computer.  Simply start writing.  Don’t think about what you’re writing.  Let your mind wander and simply write what comes.  It doesn’t have to make sense.  Write or type for as long as you can.  When nothing else feels like coming out, sit back and relax for a few moments.

Then look back at what you’ve written.  You could be very surprised at what you see.  What we’re aiming here for is unconscious thought floating to the surface.  Many times during my initial go round with the writing bug, I’d do this, sometimes because I ran into a wall, sometimes just to see what my unconscious mind was brewing up.  This is an interesting task to attempt once in awhile, one I recommend.

Free writing can help dislodge not only a block but it can also free an emotional distress.  Check it out sometime.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
