Nietzsche says that we will live the same life, over and over again. God – I’ll have to sit through the Ice Capades again.
Whether we live the SAME life over and over is up for debate. However, I AM convinced that we all come back. Anyone who has been following Wisdom and Life from its inception should realize that is one of my steadfast beliefs. I heard the above quote few weeks ago while working at the Scranton Library on a Thursday night and I promised I would use it in an upcoming column. When I first heard the Ice Capades quote, I laughed so hard I lost my breath.
I can just see Woody Allen saying such a thing in his droll voice. Woody Allen and Nietzsche aren’t the only celebrities who have mentioned Past Lives as part of their worldview. I recently discovered that General Patton believed he’d been here before as well. That shocked me beyond belief. While working at the library one day a few weeks ago the movie Patton starring George C, Scott returned and I read the back flap. The passage that caught my eye was:
Patton believed he was a warrior in past lives.
When I arrived home that evening, I researched the subject and sure enough, it proved to be true. There are many others who believe we reincarnate.
I read a book over twenty years ago called: Walking after Midnight where Hollywood actors discussed their belief in past lives. I seem to recall Martin Sheen believing in the concept. Having “Hollywooders” believing and being vocal about it doesn’t really surprise me. However, seeing someone like General Patton come out and discuss his position IS surprising. I wouldn’t expect someone of his stature being daring enough to admit this belief; maybe because even though I have no problem discussing it, the concept of reincarnation, especially when Patton was living could have been seen as quite esoteric, not ft to be discussed openly. I give General Patton credit for talking about this regardless of WHEN he discussed it. I think the more of us that openly talk about esoteric topics such as reincarnation the less afraid others will be to discuss them as well.
